Refinishing old cabinets or bathroom fixtures is a great way to brighten up your house. Bathtubs are particularly prone to stains from water and wear and tear. If you have a pedestal bathtub that's looking worn, or an antique pedestal bathtub, there are some simple steps to refinishing the porcelain for a clean, updated look. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Apply chemical cleaner to any surface you plan on refinishing. This will clean and degrease the bathtub, and prepare the surface for the chemical adhesor.
2. Rinse off and dry the bathtub after you've cleaned it.
3. Using the masking tape and paper, cover any areas you don't want to refinish, such as the faucet. Make sure any seals are covered as well, to avoid damage.
4. Apply the chemical adhesor, using a cloth or the spray gun. Apply two to three ounces. Allow five minutes of drying time before going to the next step.
5. Follow the directions for mixing the primer. Once it's mixed, pour it into the pot. Using the spray gun, apply an even coat of primer to the bathtub by starting at the top and spraying back and forth as you move down. Apply two coats, allowing for 30 minutes of drying time after each.
6. Repeat the process described in step five, using the acrylic top coat. Apply three coats, allowing for 30 minutes of drying time after each.
