Let your daughter's style come out in her bedroom decor.
The teenaged years are a time of self-expression and finding one's identity. Often, a teen girl will change interests and group affiliations frequently as she struggles to find a place to belong. Regardless of how a teen girl chooses to identify, she'll likely want this to carry over into her bedroom d cor. If your daughter is interested in punk, gothic or medieval culture, there are plenty of ideas for incorporating them into her room. Let her creativity run free and ask for her input when planning the d cor. Does this Spark an idea?
Punk
Your teen daughter may enjoy a punk bedroom if she's into old-school bands like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols. Punk style includes bright colors and bold patterns. Avoid painting all of the walls hot pink or similar colors, but don't be afraid to devote one wall to a colorful graffiti design or funky pattern. Use bedding with a leopard print or skull pattern or pay homage to punk's roots with British flag bedding. If your daughter is artistic, simply make her headboard with a blank piece of wood and let her and her friends draw or write on it. Accessorize the room with punk band posters, throw pillows with safety pins or musical instruments, like an autographed guitar.
Gothic
If your teen daughter is into dark colors and a gloomy, mysterious vibe, she may enjoy a Gothic themed bedroom. Gothic d cor includes colors such as crimson, black, gray and dark purple. Devote one wall in the room to a Gothic mural with faux stone and archways and paint the other walls a light gray. This lighter wall color can help to offset the darkness of d cor such as black curtains and black satin sheets. For bed frames and curtain rods, consider using wrought iron to resemble the fencing around a Gothic castle. Lighting can be purchased that resembles large candelabras, but without the hazards of using real candles. Let your daughter personalize the room with Gothic accessories such as gargoyles, Gothic crosses dark velvet pillows, vampire posters or magic cards.
Medieval
For the teen girl who fantasizes about life in another era with knights, castles and dragons, design a medieval themed bedroom. Use regal color themes such as hues of red, purple or blue. Paint arches on the tops of the windows to resemble castles or cathedrals. If painting the actual windows is an option, use stained glass paint to create a colorful pattern. Use rich textures like velvet and satin for the bedding and curtains. A canopy bed fit for a medieval princess can be purchased or you can create a similar effect by draping fabrics on the wall above the bed. Accessorize the space with dragons, swords, knight's helmets or other objects that fit with the theme.
