Hang Solar Lanterns

Although the initial cost of solar lanterns may be higher than low-voltage garden lamps, they have several advantages. Since they are able to convert light energy from the sun and store it for later use, they have zero impact on your utility bill. They are simple to install, because they do not require any wiring. Single or multiple solar garden light kits are typically made for use as garden path lights or as hanging lanterns. The lanterns have suspension rings on top for easy installation on a hook or bracket. Installation of solar lanterns requires no special tools and can be completed in under an hour. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Select sunny locations for installing your solar lanterns. Most solar lamps require two to three hours of direct sunlight to fully charge the batteries.

2. Install long shepherd's hooks by holding each hook vertically and positioning the lower end of the hook on the ground and applying downward pressure on the stabilization arm. You can usually accomplish this by placing your foot on the stabilization arm and using your body weight to push the hook into the ground. Hang the solar lantern on the hook.

3. Install shorter shepherd's hooks by simply pushing them into the ground, using your hands and the downward force of your upper-body weight. If you are installing several hooks for pathway lighting, measure 6 inches from the lower ends of the hooks and attach a piece of masking tape to the hook at the measured distance. Push the hooks into the ground until the tape is at ground level, then remove the tape. This ensures that all of the lanterns are hanging at the same height. Hang the solar lanterns on the hooks.

4. Position a plant-hanging bracket on a wall or wooden post where you want to hang the lantern. Use a screwdriver or a drill with driving bits and screws to securely affix the bracket to the supporting structure. Hang the solar lantern on the bracket.
