Framing a building with wood or steel is no easy task, and usually takes a team of talented and skilled laborers to get the job done with precision and quality. Whether fastening a steel door frame to wooden walls or attaching wood to steel beam supports, attaching wood to a steel framed building is a relatively simple process provided you have the appropriate tools. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Bolt the piece of wood to the steel frame by pre-cutting holes into the frame so the bolts can fit through. Drill guide holes to slide the bolts through the wood into the steel frame. Use bolts made specifically for screwing into steel or metal if attaching wood flush onto a steel frame. Bolts should be completely threaded.
2. Countersink the guide holes 1/4 inch with a spade drill bit. Place a washer into the countersink and place the bolt into the hole.
3. Place a nut on the protruding side of the bolt and fasten into place with an appropriate wrench. Place a lock nut (a nut slightly smaller than the first), onto the bolt to tighten it securely into place.
