Make A Lighted Outdoor Yard

Create a lighted outdoor yard.

A lighted outdoor yard creates the perfect backdrop for summer barbecues, tranquil nights gazing at the stars and backyard camping trips for kids. Outdoor yard decorations add an indoor designer element to an outdoor space. A lighted outdoor yard becomes a magical place of rest and relaxation after a hectic and fast-paced workweek. Creating a lighted outdoor yard is a simple and elegant way to bring drama and visual appeal to a backyard garden, patio or landscaped area. Tiki torches, stringed lights, candles, garden lanterns and porch lights can transform a dark backyard into a lighted outdoor space. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Add Tiki torches to the outdoor area.

Add Tiki torches to the outdoor yard. Select Tiki torches that have natural wood or bamboo stakes and lantern supports for an ethereal backyard lighting design. Tiki torches are lit using oil that enables the torch to burn for longer periods of time. Choose citronella Tiki torch oil to help reduce the presence of stinging and biting insects like mosquitoes. Place the Tiki torches around a patio area, a swimming pool or along a landscaped pathway for a stunning outdoor lighting design.

2. Decorate using stringed lights.

Complement backyard trees with stringed lights. Choose stringed lights that have white or clear bulbs for a lighted outdoor yard design. Hang the stringed lights on small trees and shrubs that are located throughout the backyard. Use the lights on trees and shrubs that have colorful blooms for an eye catching lighted design. Choose brown or dark green extension cords that blend in with the grass and soil to reduce the appearance of unsightly cords. Place stringed lights in a wicker basket or hamper and set it on a patio for added visual appeal.

3. Choose outdoor candlelight.

Choose candlelight for lighting a yard. Select glass, wrought iron and metallic candle holders to place on patio tables and accent tables in the yard. Fill clear glass containers halfway with stones or rocks and place a white or beige lighted candle on top of the rocks. The illumination will provide a warm soft glow to the backyard area. Choose citronella candles that ward off unwanted flying pests.

4. Use lanterns for accents.

Decorate with lighted outdoor garden lanterns. Add wrought iron or brushed nickel outdoor garden lanterns to create a lighted yard. Place the lanterns in strategic locations around the yard, including stone benches, patio tables and landscaping rocks. Make sure the lanterns are clearly visible among the flora and fauna in the yard. Battery operated lights, candles or electric lights can be used to draw attention to the garden lanterns. Place the lanterns on a secure foundation, so they won't tip or fall over.

5. Use porch lights in your outdoor lighting design.

Select outdoor porch lights. Choose porch lights that have a soft light rather than those designed for intense visibility. Low wattage bulbs or candles can be used to create an inviting outdoor atmosphere. Black wrought iron, metallic and synthetic porch lights can create stunning outdoor lighting. Due to the size and weight of porch lights, provide a cement foundation or hang the porch lights on a secure outdoor wall.
