Elegant Ways To Decorate Sliding Glass Doors

Sliding glass door

Decorating a boring sliding glass door by using an elegant covering will provide instant style as well as privacy. Brightly hued drapes and curtains add a pop of color to any living room. You can also choose drapes featuring sophisticated prints, such as toile or a fleur-de-lis design. Add an exotic touch to your home by using Asian-inspired shoji screens to cover your sliding glass door. Equally as chic, bamboo blinds will give a space an island flair while allowing the sun to shine in as desired. Does this Spark an idea?

Exotic Coverings

Add an exotic flair to your home by replacing your sliding glass door with an Asian-inspired shoji screen (see Resources for a link). Made with Japanese paper and acrylic materials, the screen allows filtered light into the room while providing privacy.

Hang bamboo shades on your sliding glass doors for instant island style. You can hang two separate natural bamboo shades for each half of the sliding glass door, or you can buy one to fit the entire width. Roll the bamboo shades up to allow sunlight in.

Drapes

Elegant drapes or curtains give your home a shot of sophistication. Choose colors to coordinate with the rest of your decor. Use traditional draperies in a luxurious fabric, such as silk or velvet, to cover your sliding glass door and add an opulent look to any space.

If you prefer a casually elegant look, choose a woven cotton blend fabric. A French country-inspired toile pattern will be charming, as will a striped design featuring complementary colors, such as cornflower blue and cream. Customize the look with wrought-iron or wood curtain rods, along with ribbon or rope tie-backs.

Plantation Shutters

Plantation shutters are as functional as they are classic (see Resources for a link). Cover your sliding glass doors with these shutters for a clean, timeless look. You can choose hinged bi-fold designs which close closet door-style; the shutters are sold with coordinating tracks. If the shutters are installed in a bi-pass configuration, they are slid on an overhead track behind each other. This configuration is ideal for small spaces as the shutters don't protrude into the room.
