Baker's racks are usually displayed in a kitchen, as they were traditionally used to cool baked goods. Decorative and functional, they often work to hold practical items such as mugs or cookbooks or to display decorations. In fact, baker's racks don't have to be confined to a kitchen at all. You can set them up in any room and decorate them in any way you please. Try displaying some favorite photos on your baker's rack to show them off. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Choose a theme for your photos to create a cohesive look to your baker's rack. Photos that are not related somehow will only make the baker's rack look disorganized. Select a theme for each shelf, or one theme for the entire rack--themes can include photos of family members, favorite landscapes, photos from a particular trip or food photos.
2. Print your photos in black and white. Too many color photos can confuse the eye, especially if they are crowded together on a shelf. Instead, print most of the photos in black and white and choose one color photo for the middle of each shelf. Or, for an upscale look, print all of them in black and white or sepia tones.
3. Frame your photos in similar frames. You don't want your frames to all be different materials. Silver next to oak next to black can look disjointed. Instead, choose a material that complements your baker's rack. Try pine frames on a pine backer's rack or silver frames on a sleek, modern baker's rack.
4. Purchase frames of different sizes. Baker's racks have graduated shelves. Place smaller photos on the top shelf and your largest photos on the bottom shelf.
5. Break up the expanse of photos with some silk or live green plants. Plants are an excellent accent for photos and add a splash of nature to any area of the house. Herbs are a handy choice if your baker's rack is near a light source. Alternately, decorate around your photos with seasonal decorations such as colorful fall leaves, miniature gourds or even fake greens and white holiday lights.
