Headboards That Hang On The Wall

Mix and match fabulous headboards that hang on the wall.

Every bed deserves a fashionable headboard, but a headboard doesn't have to come from the furniture store. Add a hanging headboard to the wall and turn your basic bed frame into a designer ensemble. Whether you prefer a style that's country or contemporary, there are materials you can use to fashion a custom headboard that hangs on the wall and suits you to a T. Does this Spark an idea?

Fabric

Hanging fabric is one of the fastest and least expensive ways to brighten your bedroom and frame your bed. Long lengths of fabric create a regal tapestry when hung across a curtain rod suspended behind your bed. Create a romantic canopy by hanging a second curtain rod from the ceiling, at your bed's midpoint, and continuing the fabric across it. Or hang a quilt behind your bed instead to match shabby-chic d cor.

Upholstery

Upholstered headboards combine form, function and fashion. Comfortable foam padding makes such a hanging headboard comfortable when you're leaning against it while reading in bed, and the fabric exterior is customizable to your bedroom d cor. Simply cut a piece of plywood to your desired size (you should make it a few inches wider than the mattress width, but you can make it as tall as you like), glue thick foam on top and wrap the entire piece tightly with fabric. Use a staple gun to staple the fabric to the back of your plywood. Hang the completed headboard on the wall with mounting brackets.

Metal

Wrought iron garden gates and window screens hung behind the bed bring old-world class to a bedroom. Tin ceiling tiles are a perfect headboard for your country home when they're hung in a row behind the bed. Stack several rows of tiles up the wall for a dramatic statement piece.

Wood

A salvaged door makes a beautiful hanging headboard when hung sideways behind the bed. Cut the door to the width of your bed and refinish as desired. Add decorative molding to the top to complete the piece. Wooden shelves also make stylish and convenient headboards. Hang a row of matching pieces with brackets for a classic look, or be playful by staggering the shelves along the wall. Display lightweight objects on this custom headboard for safety.
