Decorate Tables With Candles

Use decorative candles to softly illuminate a dinner table.

Candles are the ideal way to bring color and light to a special event table. If you are planning a wedding reception, birthday bash, outdoor summer soiree or a holiday party, create an eye-catching table centerpiece using candles. Choose candles according to the color scheme or decor theme of the event, as a table scape can be used to pull a specific design style together. Decorative candles look festive unlit and will cast a soft glow across the table when lit. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose a candle style and color. Pick a taper, pillar, tea light or votive-style candle depending on the type of centerpiece you want to create. Decide on a candle shade, such as red, gold or blue, to coordinate with the overall color scheme of the table.

2. Pick a candle holder. Create a summer-inspired table by placing vibrant floating candles in a bowl full of water. Choose a multi-branched candelabra if you want to display several candles at once. Place a blue candle in a large clear holder filled with sand and small seashells to enhance a beach-themed centerpiece. Place the candle holder in the center of the table.

3. Surround the candle display with complementary decor items. Set vases filled with fresh-cut flowers on either side of the candle centerpiece. Display the candle inside a vintage white wire bird cage for a shabby-chic style. Sprinkle silver glitter around a blue candle in a frosted white holder to create a winter wonderland effect.

4. Illuminate the table with coordinating individual candle displays. Fill antique porcelain tea cups with tea lights, or mini plastic sand buckets with small votives. Place tall taper candles in wrought iron bird-shaped holders. Set a candle display by each guest's place setting.
