Security doors have become a much more popular option for many homes. While many traditional doors are made out of wood, security doors are normally constructed from steel or iron. Their metal construction combined with their heavier weight make them more force-resistant as well as at least partially fireproof. 3. Calculate how much you want to spend on your door. This will be useful when deciding the type of door you want and for when you comparison shop between retailers.

Iron is a popular option though some people who prefer a lighter option go with reinforced wood or fiberglass. Iron or steel are a strong visible deterrent because people can see from a distance that the door is reinforced but the door frame may need to be built specifically for it. For bigger budgets, some go with bronze for their artistic appearance but bronze doors are very expensive.
5. Find a security door retailer. General home improvement stores like Home Depot frequently sell security doors and there may be specialty shops nearby.
6. Compare prices between the retailers for the type of door you want. Include any excess charges such as for door modification and delivery to see which retailer offers the best overall package.
7. Purchase the door. You can probably have it delivered and installed if you need to or you can do it yourself in order to save on cost.
