Fence In A Porch

As the seasons change and the temperatures rise, there is no better place to cool off than your front porch. You may have the shade, but then there is the problem of the bugs. Screening off your porch allows you to have the best of both worlds: shade and no bugs. Using a Screen Tight kit, you can save yourself considerable time and effort and have that porch screened in within a weekend -- maybe even a long Saturday. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the outer faces of the support beams around your porch.

2. Cut the 3 1/5-inch vertical base strips (from the Screen Tight kit) to length, using a pair of tin-snips.

3. Using wood screws and a hand drill, screw the vertical base strips to the outer faces of the support beams.

4. Measure any horizontal support beams or lattices that brace the outer support beams.

5. Cut the 1 1/2-inch horizontal support strips (from the Screen Tight kit) to length, using a pair of tin snips.

6. Using wood screws and a hand drill, screw the horizontal base strips to the support beams and lattices.

7. Unroll the screens from the Screen Tight kit.

8. Snap one end of a screen sheet into the screen clamp lining on the vertical base strips, otherwise known as the spline.

9. Pulling the screen sheet tight, snap the other end of the screen into the opposite base strip spline.

10. Cut away any excess screen fabric with a utility knife.

11. Measure the 3 1/2-inch wide cap trim to fit over the vertical base strips.

12. Cut the vertical wide cap trim to length with a pair of tin snips.

13. Snap the wide cap trim over the vertical base strip. You should need no more than a palm tap to snap them into place.

14. Measure the 1 1/2-inch horizontal thin cap to fit over the horizontal supports or lattices and cut to length with a pair of tin snips.

15. Use a rubber mallet to snap the thin cap onto the horizontal base strips.
