Press Autumn Leaves

Press Autumn Leaves

Autumn leaves are so strikingly beautiful that people who live in areas not blessed by fall colors will pay good money to tour areas that do enjoy the purples, reds, golds and oranges. Whether you can view the blazing hues through your kitchen window or you travel across the country to inspect the intense fall leaves, take a few steps to preserve your best findings.

Instructions

1. Collect a variety of leaves that you think are the prettiest. Avoid any with lots of holes, and don't keep any moldy ones. While you can definitely look on the ground for leaves, look up at branches that you can reach as well.

2. Make sure your leaves are completely dry. If they are not, or you are not certain, place the leaves between several sheets of newspaper overnight. Place a heavy book, such as a phone book or dictionary, on top of the paper.

3. Place leaves between two sheets of waxed paper. Place the waxed paper with the leaves on your ironing board or other surface where you can safely iron.

4. Set a small towel such as a dish towel or hand towel over the top piece of waxed paper to keep the iron from sticking to the paper. Heat up the iron as directed, and press the leaves. Move the iron around the entire surface of the waxed paper, allowing it to stand on each area for several seconds.

5. Remove the iron when the waxed paper is sealed together. Place your leaves in a scrap book, picture frame or keepsake box.
