Rust forms on metals because of long exposure to water. This is never more prevalent than in a shower stall. Even after you turn off the shower, moisture in the air corrodes the metal. Although shower drains have a rustproof coating, in time this coating wears away. This leaves the drain susceptible to rusting. Small rust stains are easy to remove. But if the rust is not treated it only spreads, eating away at the metal until rust holes develop. Cleaning rust from the drain should be a part of regular housecleaning. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Scrub at the rust with a steel-wool pad. This helps get rid of small rust stains and surface rust on the shower drain.
2. Sprinkle borax onto the shower drain area. Pour a little lemon juice on the borax to create a paste. Let the paste remain on the shower drain for up to one hour.
3. Scrub at the shower drain with a steel-wool pad. Wipe away the rust and paste.
4. Turn on the shower to wash away any paste or rust residue. Let shower run for a few minutes.
5. Dry the shower drain with a paper towel after each use. This prevents rust from reappearing.
