Decorate A European Kitchen

Wrought-iron accessories add European charm to the kitchen area.

Decorating a kitchen so that it has an old-world European-style is an effective way to add a cozy ambiance to this room in your home. Mediterranean and Tuscany-inspired decor works well in a kitchen area. It creates a warm, inviting workplace where friends and family will gather for casual chats over coffee or while preparing a meal. Old-world accessories and colors heighten the vintage, yet elegant look of the room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the kitchen walls with rich, warm colors, such as burnt red and olive greens, Terra cotta, warm bronzes and golds. These colors are often seen in European, Tuscan and other Mediterranean-style homes.

2. Invest in a wrought-iron table and chairs for the eat-in kitchen area or set wrought-iron bar stools around an island. This type of metal working is often seen in wall art as well and it coordinates beautifully with European-inspired kitchens. Another idea is to purchase a plain wooden table with distressed paint or scars to indicate it is an often-used and well-loved possession.

3. Display colorful pottery bowls filled with faux or real grape clusters, artichokes, asparagus or other decorative foods on your table or island as a centerpiece. European kitchen decor focuses on food and a familial atmosphere.

4. Use colorful, decorative tile or ones that resemble stone for a back splash or on your counter tops. This adds a European-ambiance to the kitchen area. Or consider a custom-painted backsplash featuring vineyard scenes or olives and olive oil bottles.

5. Collect vintage wine bottles from Europe to display on open shelves or around the room. Many European citizens work in vineyards and in the wine making industry.

6. Add wall art that depicts the Tuscany valley, vineyards, a European bistro or other scenery that showcases European foods art or lifestyles.

7. Install Terra cotta or tile floor or use hardwood flooring to give the room an old-world atmosphere.
