Bamboo fencing is a unique and easy way to add visual interest and privacy to a yard or garden. Commonly available in rolls, small-diameter bamboo stalks are interwoven with wire or heavy string to join them side by side, creating long lengths of bamboo fencing. Installing bamboo is typically a fun and easy-to-do project that can be accomplished successfully by attaching it to existing fence such as welded wire or chain-link. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Lay the roll of bamboo fence on the ground at the bottom of the chain-link or welded wire fence. Place the roll of bamboo fencing so that the butt of the bamboo fencing roll is next to the chain link or wire fence. The butt or end of the roll will ultimately be the bottom of the bamboo fencing.
2. Roll out the bamboo fencing with the help of an assistant. Roll the bamboo out completely and adjust the bamboo in areas where it is kinked or not completely unrolled.
3. Begin at one end of the bamboo fencing and raise it to the chain link or wire fence. Position the bamboo so that it is situated in a corner of the existing wire fence or in a good beginning location based on personal preference.
4. Hold the bamboo fence against the wire or chain-link fence and raise it up slightly off the ground to prevent moisture damage.
5. Secure the bamboo fence to the wire fence with galvanized wire. Form a U shape with a 6- to 8-inch length of wire. Feed the ends of the U through the bamboo fence and through the wire fence. Pull the U down securely against the bamboo and twist the ends of the wire together to secure the bamboo fence to the wire fence.
6. Continue wiring the bamboo fence to the wire or chain-link fence every 12 inches or so, horizontally, from the last tie point. Tie the top and bottom of the bamboo fence to the wire fence and consider alternating the spacing with the top and bottom wire ties for more stability.
