Create Ornamental Iron In Sketchup

Create iron oraments in SketchUp using reference photos like this.

3-D models have many uses, from architectural renderings to video games and animated films. SketchUp, a free basic modeler offered by Google, can be used to design buildings and other structures. While it is simple to use, you can still create a wide array of objects with SketchUp, including complex ornamental iron objects.

Instructions

1. Load an image of the ornamental iron you want to create a model of onto your computer.

2. Click on the desktop shortcut to start the SketchUp application. Select the default 2-D person in the scene and delete it.

3. Select "Camera" from the menu and choose "Standard Views." From the options, choose "Top."

4. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Import." In the dialog box, locate and open the image you loaded.

5. Click with the mouse on the ground plane in the view to place one corner of the image. Drag with the mouse to size the image, then click again.

6. Select the "Freehand" tool from the toolbar. Use it to trace the shape of the ornamental iron in the picture.

7. Hold down the middle mouse button and drag the scene to return the camera to the perspective view.

8. Select the "Push/Pull" tool from the toolbar. Click on the shape you drew and pull it upward to create depth for the ornamental iron.

9. Click on the "Paintbucket." From the categories, drag a material that best matches the iron look you are trying to achieve onto the model. Save your work.
