Create A Paris Party Theme

Bring the flair and ambience of Paris to a party setting.

Creating a Paris-themed party is a great way to let your friends escape for one night. A trip to Paris is expensive, but organizing a Paris-themed party provides a trip without ever leaving the country. Make sure you provide guests with important information on the invitations such as if they should wear any special attire for the party. Consider renting tables and decorations from local party stores instead of purchasing supplies and making a larger investment. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Design invitations. Create themed invitations resembling an airline ticket with the destination as Paris, France. Fill in the date and time of the flight as the date and time of the party. Think about invitations that look like a passport. Open the passport to find the party information and a stamp to Paris. Use "Mademoiselle" or "Madame" to refer to the guest of honor to give the invitation a more authentic feel.

2. Create a runway for guests to walk down as they arrive at the party. Place red bulletin board paper or a red table cloth securely on the floor. Add white Christmas lights to the edges. Consider having someone take pictures of the guests as they arrive and walk the runway. These make for excellent memories of the party.

3. Set the scene. Use famous Paris landmarks to decorate your party space. Work with your local print shop to create large posters of the Eiffel Tower or Arc de Triomphe. Use bistro tables covered in red and white check tablecloths with wrought-iron chairs. Add fresh flowers to the table tops and place topiary trees, lampposts and French flags around the table area.

4. Plan activities. Arrange for a caricature artist to create drawings of your guests throughout the evening. Ask the local wine shop to conduct a tasting of French wines and share information about some of the famous French wine regions. Hire a French chef to teach guests to prepare traditional French foods or present a cooking demonstration. Play a game of French trivia, focusing on the country, its food and wine, and famous French people.

5. Make French foods. Create a menu full of French favorites. Start with appetizers and finger foods such as croissants, a cheese tray, French bread, pate' and tapenade. Try French onion soup, a quiche, Loire pork loin or boulevard beef as your main course. Serve these dishes with red and white wines from various regions of France, bottled water or strong coffee. Consider French desserts such as crème brûlée, chocolate eclairs or apple tarte tatins to complete your Paris-themed party.
