Wrought Iron Garden Decor

Even the most utilitarian wrought iron decor items have a formal appearance. They can have a Victorian appearance with delicate twists and fleurs-de-lis or a western appearance with thicker iron bars that have small turnings at the ends. Does this Spark an idea?

Care

Wrought iron will last forever, but it needs to be primed and painted when rust appears.

Types

Wrought iron garden decor items can be one of two types. They can be functional such as full size gazebos, fences and garden benches or decorative such as house numbers, bird houses, bells and figurines.

Features

Wrought iron contains little carbon, which makes it easy to bend into decorative shapes. Wrought iron can be painted black or white. Wrought iron is a perfect choice for garden decor because of its durability.

Design

Since wrought iron items all have similar designs, you can create a cohesive and unified design. A delicate bird house will blend in very well with the heavier fencing.

Facts

Wrought iron was brought to western Europe in the 1600s.

Wrought iron is not widely made today and many items are wrought iron style, but are actually made of mild steel, which has the same properties
