Remove Wrought Iron Railings From Cement

Rusted wrought iron railing can be a safety hazard.


Wrought iron railings give a nostalgic look to a home's patio stairway or a vintage fence. However, if wrought iron railings are not painted on a regular basis, they quickly rust. Rusted wrought iron railings may give way if someone leans on them, which can lead to a fall. Sometimes, wrought iron railings simply do not complement a remodeled home exterior and must be replaced. Remove rusted or outdated wrought iron railings from cement to give your home a new look. Does this Spark an idea?


Instructions


1. Remove any fasteners that secure the wrought iron railing to your house siding. Usually, you will locate brackets screwed into the house. Unscrew the brackets with a screwdriver.


2. Cut off each support post level with the concrete footer with a reciprocating saw equipped with a metal cutting blade.


3. Sand the surface of the footer with an orbital sander to remove the rust stains left by the wrought iron railing.
