Ideas On Make Your Own King Headboard

Ideas on Make Your Own King Headboard

Sleeping in a king-size bed is an expansive luxury that’s appealing to many people. Accessorizing a king-size bed so that it looks as indulgent as it feels doesn’t have to mean purchasing an expensive bed frame with an elaborate headboard. Making a king headboard is a project that allows the do-it-yourselfer to customize the look of the headboard to personal tastes and bedroom d cor. Does this Spark an idea?

Padded Fabric Headboard

Stretching fabric over a plywood panel is one of the simplest ways to create a custom headboard. The typical fabric-covered headboard consists of a sheet of plywood cut to fit as desired above the bed with a piece of foam glued to the plywood, batting wrapped around the foam and the fabric of choice wrapped over the batting and stapled to the back of the plywood. One large, padded panel looks traditional and is comfortable to lean back on; several smaller panels can create a dramatic modern look.

Painted and Stained Headboards

Even the artistically challenged can create an attractive, custom headboard by painting or staining a plain headboard or piece of plywood. A plain headboard can be given a basecoat of white or painted a solid color. You can paint freehand patterns or designs from whimsical to ultra-modern, or you can use stencils or tracings if you have a less steady hand. A sheet of plywood can be sanded, stained in the wood tone of choice and sealed to create a minimalist modern look.

Repurposed Materials

Headboard ideas aren’t limited to padding and paint. Consider creating a headboard out of items that were originally used for other purposes. An old door with interesting architectural design can be sanded and stained then hung horizontally above a bed; stacking two or three creates an even bolder statement. Inexpensive closet doors can be painted and mounted to the wall above the bed or hinged and sat on the floor, with hinges slightly closed, to create a fan or accordion look and for stability.

Antique mirrors, such as the ones mounted to old vanities and dressers, can be mounted to the wall above a bed to create a headboard that is both modern and that reflects a vintage feel. Another popular way to create a vintage look is to use old wrought iron fencing or gates as a king headboard.
