The Care Of Black Wrought Iron Furniture

Black wrought iron is a common choice for table material.

Wrought iron furniture is an extremely durable option for both indoor and outdoor furnishing. Outdoor wrought iron furniture usually includes items such as large or small tables, chairs or loungers. Some homeowners also furnish indoors with wrought iron tables or chairs. Black wrought iron is a very common color scheme for the furniture. While it is straightforward to clean and maintain, black wrought iron furniture may be damaged by abrasive cleaning agents. Stick to water and a mild detergent for heavy cleaning, or simply a moist rag for light cleaning. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Moisten a cotton rag lightly with water and wipe down your black wrought iron furniture for light cleaning. Pay attention to detailing, such as swirls or nooks that can easily accumulate dirt and dust.

2. Mix several teaspoons of a mild detergent and water together in a spray bottle and coat the furniture for heavier cleaning. Wipe off with a rag moistened with water and dry with a cotton towel.

3. Spray down the furniture with a garden hose for outdoor cleaning. Spray the mild detergent and water mixture and wipe down with a water-soaked rag. Dry off the wrought iron with a cotton towel.

4. Rub stubborn stains, rust or discolored areas lightly with sandpaper until they disappear. Wipe off the area with a dry rag to remove sanding and paint chip remnants. Repaint the area with black paint.

5. Paint on a clear coat finish, available at paint and hardware stores, over your black wrought iron furniture to protect the surface from peeling, scratching and discoloration. Tape off or remove any non-wrought iron part of the furniture, such as stone or glass tabletops, before painting to avoid damaging the features.
