The brake light bulbs on the 1995 Mazda MPV van are located in the combination light or taillight assembly on the rear of the van. Using a dual filament 1157 bulb, the brake lights and the taillight share the same bulb and position in the assembly. Replacement bulbs for the MPV are available at the Mazda dealer, an auto parts store and some department stores.
Instructions
1. Open the rear lift gate of your Mazda MPV and locate the taillight assembly on either side of the opening. The brake-light bulbs are located in the combination light housings.
2. Locate the two screws at the top of the assembly and remove them with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the assembly straight away from the body of the van.
3. Locate the socket on the rear of the taillight assembly. Grasp the socket, turn it counterclockwise and pull it straight out of the taillight assembly. Push in on the bulb and turn it counterclockwise and then pull the bulb out of the socket.
4. Install a new 1157 bulb into the socket, pressing it in and turning the bulb clockwise to lock it in place. Insert the socket back into the taillight assembly and turn it clockwise until it locks in place.
5. Position the taillight assembly back on the rear of the van. Align the pins at the bottom of the assembly and slide the light all the way in. Install the two retaining screws at the top of the light assembly and then tighten them with a Phillips screwdriver.
6. Repeat the process on the opposite light if you are changing both brake-light bulbs. Close the lift gate and have someone step on the brake pedal to verify the brake lights are working correctly.
