Decorate A Kid'S Room With Iron Beds

An iron bed adds an antique charm to a child's bedroom.

Iron beds in a child's room give it a classic appeal, reminiscent of another time. Iron beds can be simple, with clean lines, or ornate and full of embellishments. When you have iron beds in a kid's bedroom, decorate the rest of the space in a way that brings out the distinctive appearance of the bed. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the walls in a kid-friendly color. Avoid dark colors, which make the room seem smaller. Light colors like soft, pale pink and lavender work for a girl's bedroom and fit with the classical appearance of an iron bed. Sky blue and pale yellow provide options for a boy's room with a simple iron bed frame.

2. Add hardware, like hinges and doorknobs, and accessories like lamps, in metal colors that match the iron bed. This ties the different areas of the child's room together, creating a cohesive look.

3. Hang whimsical pictures on the walls that are evocative of another era, like floral paintings from the romantic era for a girl's room or a black and white photo of sailing ships for a boy's room. Ornate fairy-tale illustrations also go with the vibe that iron beds produce and are child-friendly.

4. Place an antique toy chest at the foot of the iron bed or against the wall as a place to store the child's toys from the modern era and hide them from view when not in use.

5. Add a bed canopy over the iron bed to enhance its fairy-tale, whimsical appearance. Hang a circular object like an embroidery hoop from the ceiling and drape it with sheer fabrics that cascade around the bed or purchase a pre-made ceiling mountable canopy.
