Egyptian Bedroom Decorating Themes

Use Egyptian art for inspiration.

Egypt is a desert country with a rich tradition of sensuous hard wood, sandy browns, tapestries and antiquity. Decorating your bedroom in an Egyptian style brings the richness of history into your private space. Opt for a truly antique Egyptian bedroom with old furniture, authentic artwork and heavy woven rugs, or modernize your Egyptian style with clean lines and sculptural reproductions. Whichever option you choose, aim to create a welcoming space that makes you feel relaxed and at home. Does this Spark an idea?

Paint

Choose colors that evoke the desert. Sandy brown is an obvious choice, but feel free to branch out to deeper browns as well. Offset the walls with gold or deep blue paint on moldings to evoke the azure stones and golden jewelry of Cleopatra. Add some texture to your walls by using a darker base color with a sponge-applied lighter top coat.

Furniture

Repurpose a travel trunk as a bedside table or a bedroom coffee table if you have the space. Aim to reproduce the aesthetic of the archaeologists and Egyptologists exploring the pyramids in the 1920s. Pick up a heavy wood-framed mirror and a dark leather chair. For the bed, choose a frame with simple curved lines. An antique sleigh bed will work well in an Egyptian-themed room.

Art and Artifacts

Display authentic Egyptian art and artifacts if you are a collector, or pick up some inexpensive reproductions that feature Egyptian themes and imagery. Many recognizable Egyptian symbols should be considered, such as the pyramid, the single eye and the bird in profile. Look at hieroglyphics for inspiration. If you are artistically inclined, paint a column of hieroglyphics that spell out an inspirational word or your family name.
