Decorating a girl's bedroom can seem an overwhelming task, as there are so many options for colors, themes and accessories. The job can be fun, however, when you let your creativity take over the design and put together a sweet space for your little girl. With just some basic tools and materials, even designing novices can complete a girl's bedroom with a bit of know-how and patience. With some tips, you can have the room completed in no time. 1. Push the furniture in the bedroom away from the walls and paint the room a pastel color like baby pink, periwinkle or lavender. Once the paint is dry, push the furniture back in place.
2. Hand a round net canopy above the bed. These can be found at most home goods stores and the canopies come with a screw top that can easily be twisted into the ceiling. The netted canopy adds a soft and whimsical touch to a girl's bedroom.
3. Hang some ornaments in a corner of the room. Most children's decorating stores sell items like hanging butterflies or flowers, which can be twisted into the ceiling and hung at different lengths. Group these ornaments in odd numbers, for instance, hanging three or five together.
4. Hang framed pictures on whichever wall has the most open wall space. Use a hammer and nails to hang a couple of pictures with motifs of flowers or fairies and choose pictures that are done in pastel colors with light-colored picture frames.
5. Hang a white-framed mirror above the dresser to create a vanity space. Many decorating stores sell white wrought-iron mirrors with adornments like flowers and leaves, which work well in a little girl's room.
6. Place a white rocking chair in one corner of the room to create a little reading nook for your child.
7. Add soft fabric touches like a plush, pastel-colored rug and throw pillows with floral designs. Place pillows on the bed and the rocking chair.
8. Use children's toys to add finishing touches. Items like dolls, stuffed animals and a doll house can be placed around the room to create a sweet ambience.
