Restore Wrought Iron Furniture

With a little elbow grease and time, you can restore your old wrought iron furniture. The process is not difficult in theory but it does take having the right materials, dedication and a little work. It’s well worth it to restore your wrought iron furniture to as good as new condition. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Get down to the core. In other words, you must remove the existing finish along with the rust and dirt. Depending on the size of the furniture, you may elect to use either a sander or purchase a chemical rust remover from a local home improvement store. Whichever method you choose just make sure that you get to the bare metal.

2. Remove excess debris. Rinse the furniture to remove all excess rust and debris particles. Be sure to thoroughly dry the furniture before proceeding to the next step.

3. Apply a rust resistant primer made especially for metal surfaces. The primer will help to prevent future rust and prolong the life of your wrought iron furniture

4. Paint the restored wrought iron furniture with paint made for metals. Although ordinary wall paint may work for a season or two, for long lasting wear and tear, its best to use paint made specifically for metal.

5. Protect your restored wrought iron furniture with two coats of a topcoat. A reoccurring theme when it comes to restoring wrought iron furniture is to protect it by using the right type of paint. It’s best to find a quality water-based acrylic topcoat that will protect your wrought iron furniture from the elements and future rust.
