Moneymaking Ideas For A Certified Welder

There are numerous opportunites for certified welders to use their skills.

Welding is more than just taking a hot rod and putting two pieces of metal together. It requires a delicate touch and a thorough knowledge of how metals and temperature go together. This makes it a specialized skill, and once a welder passes a certification test, he can set out and start looking for jobs.

Welding Route

One of the ways that a person can make money is with a welding route. In rural areas, a welder could go into local feed stores and work out an arrangement with the owner or manager. In return for offering reduced rates for items that might need to be welded, the feed store owner might let customers drop off items that need repair. Then, once a week or once a month, the welder can pick the items up, repair them and either deliver them to the owners or drop them off at the feed store and collect his money.

Pipe Fencing

In farm communities, it is common to find a lot of pipe fences. While these fences are strong and sturdy, they are also subject to the elements and require regular maintenance. A certified welder can either apply his talents with a welding company or he can offer his services freelance, repairing fencing as necessary.

Art

Naturally, other areas in which welders can make money is through art. Welded artwork can be found in gardens and the interiors of homes throughout the country. In addition, new ways of using welding can be found in areas such as flame painting, which takes ordinary carbon and imbues it with a various colors caused by the heat of the torch.

Teaching

Something for a welder to consider is using the knowledge and skill she has in order to teach others. Being able to show others properly weld is a terrific way to both earn money and to make sure the next generation of welders has been given the correct instruction in order to be both safe and profitable.

Location

Making money as a certified welder depends upon location. For example, in areas where there is construction work being done, such as in Baton Rouge, job openings for welders are plentiful. After Hurricane Katrina, areas hit hard by the storm have a definite need for skilled labor that can help get the towns and cities back to normal.

Self-Investment

Welding equipment costs money. In order to get the best jobs, a certified welder needs the proper equipment. If his generator doesn't produce enough electricity, he won't be able to get the best weld possible. It's a good idea to always set a little aside from each job in order to maintain equipment, and even to upgrade when the time comes.
