Rustic Kitchen Remodeling

Weathered furniture suits a rustic kitchen.

Rustic kitchens are a warm and inviting space where a family can enjoy cooking and entertaining. When you set out to remodel your kitchen in a rustic country style, pay attention to finishes and materials. Rustic decorating often involves wrought iron, dark and worn woodwork and folk art. Select copper pots, pans and other cooking dishes with antique styling. Focus on key elements, such as paint colors, cabinet hardware and accessories to make the transformation. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint all the walls or an accent wall a warm color, such as deep yellow or a rustic orange. Orange is a traditional, relaxing color in rustic kitchens.

2. Replace your cabinet hardware with wrought-iron hardware. Unscrew the knobs, pulls and hinges with a screwdriver, and replace them with the wrought-iron ones.

3. Locate the studs on the wall where you would like to mount a wrought-iron pot rack. Use a stud finder. Mark the location with a pencil.

4. Hold the rack in place on the wall so that the mounting holes are aligned with the stud markings.

5. Drive the provided screws through the mounting holes in the pot rack and into the wall studs, using a screw gun.

6. Select a set of pots and pans that are copper or have copper in their finish. These are traditionally found in rustic kitchens and work well with the finish of the pot rack. Hang the pots and pans on the hooks of the pot rack.

7. Purchase artwork that depicts traditional agricultural themes, such as harvesting or farm landscapes. Prop the artwork against the wall on counters or hang them on the wall.

8. Find antique or antique-looking crockery at an antique or home shop. Place one of the pieces on your table or another focal point in the kitchen. Place dried flowers or fresh garden flowers in the piece.
