Decorate A Country Style Kitchen

Display a handful of wildflowers in your kitchen for a country-inspired look.

Decorating with a country style will give your kitchen a relaxed vibe and appearance. Country style ranges from sophisticated to sweet and simple. Tuscan and French country styles are reminiscent of rolling fields, centuries-old farmhouses, charming cafes and winding brick paths. Vintage country style embraces antique items and farm-inspired touches. Choose a decor color palette and theme that encompasses all or some of these qualities for a fresh style. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the kitchen walls a warm, welcoming shade. Choose a hue such as honey, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon or paprika to set the background for a country-inspired design style. If you have dark wood furniture and cupboards, choose a lighter shade; a light wood, such as oak, will blend well with richer paints.

2. Hang country-inspired curtains. Choose a light fabric, such as cotton, which will allow diffused sunlight to stream into your kitchen. Look for country-style patterns, such as gingham and paisley. Toile-patterned curtains will infuse your kitchen with a French country flair. Look for vintage window coverings featuring charming apple or cherry designs.

3. Pick a design theme to create a cohesive look. Decorate with rooster-enhanced items, such as ceramic jars, oil and vinegar dispensers, towels and place mats. Other country-inspired decor themes include sunflowers, birds and apples.

4. Decorate with farm-fresh items. Fill a vintage glass vase with just-picked daisies as a vibrant centerpiece. Display terra-cotta plant pots filled with culinary herbs such as thyme and rosemary on your counter top. Wrap live green vines around the top of an antique bakers rack. Hang a plant above the sink.

5. Pick rustic-looking furniture and accents. Set delicate floral-patterned pottery and porcelain items on a bakers rack made with rough-hewn wood. Whitewash your existing kitchen table to create a time-worn look. Buy a table and chair set constructed with recycled barn wood. Choose cabinets with wrought iron hardware.
