Decorate Log Home Bathrooms

Create a bathroom that supports the woody atmosphere of your log home.

Bring the rustic charm of your log home into your bathroom with some organic touches. From the paint color to the floor rug, your bathroom must present a cohesive statement of natural beauty and charm. Avoid overaccessorizing, which detracts from the understated simplicity of a log home. Instead of outfitting your bathroom in moose- or bear-themed accents, visualize a bathroom that welcomes the outdoors inside and offers a tranquil escape. This can be accomplished with simple touches placed strategically around your bathroom. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Pick out an earth-toned color to paint your walls. Choose an olive green or berry for a larger bathroom and a cool sage or butter yellow for a smaller bathroom. If you prefer natural wood tones on your walls, then skip the paint.

2. Choose another earth tone for your shower curtain and floor rug that will compliment your wall color. For example, a sage green wall would be complimented by a chocolate brown shower curtain and floor rug. If your wall is olive green, then choose a cream curtain and floor rug to stand out against the dark walls.

3. Browse your local home improvement store for rustic bronze or wrought iron accessories for your bathroom. Choose a towel rack, faucet and other accessories in matching finishes. Place your rolls of toilet paper in a wooden basket to carry through the rustic theme.

4. Search your local home improvement store or garage sales for a rustic mirror with a weathered frame to hang in your log home bathroom. Hang a shelf, about the width of your mirror, below your mirror; glue birch-bark ribbon on the edge of the shelf for a rustic finish.

5. Hang decorative branches with berries above your mirror. At your local craft store, look for a long, decorative twig garland. Secure your decorative twig garland above your bathroom door and linen closet door, if your bathroom contains one, and secure it down the sides of the door frames for a rustic effect.

6. Glue birch-bark ribbon to candles and display them on the shelf below the mirror. Glue birch-bark ribbon on the three picture frames and put pressed leaves, berries and flowers in them for homemade wall art suited to your log home bathroom.

7. Place a plant in your bathroom to bring nature inside your log home bathroom. Choose a plant that will thrive in the moisture and shade of your bathroom. If your thumb is not green, decorate your bathroom with a silk green plant to achieve the same outcome.
