Turn A Queen Bed Into A Daybed

Turn a Queen Bed into a Daybed

A daybed gives you the height of interior decor versatility. It allows you a comfortable place to sleep at night and functions just as a couch during the day. It allows you to place your bed out in the open without visitors feeling like they've been granted a glimpse into your private sleeping quarters. However, you don't necessarily need to run out and buy a daybed if you don't have one already. You can convert any bed, even a queen-sized one, into a daybed rather simply. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Cover the headboard and footboard with a coat of primer, and allow it to dry. Paint the headboard and footboard a color that complements or harmoniously contrasts the decor of the room where you will store the daybed. Consider bright festive colors, such as lime green, robin's egg blue or butter yellow.

2. Measure the length from the headboard to the footboard, and write it down. Measure the inches from the top of headboard to the floor and write that measurement down as well. Go to a lumberyard and buy a piece of plywood of those exact dimensions.

3. Coat the plywood front and back with an even layer of primer. Allow the primer to dry, and paint it the same color as the headboard and footboard. Once the paint has dried, add a final coat of finish. Allow 24 hours for it to dry.

4. Attach your piece of plywood by drilling it to the side of one end of the headboard, extending to the other end of the footboard. Move your day bed so that the plywood side of it presses against the wall.

5. Add four or five bright throw pillows to cover the back piece of plywood. Add two or three heavy bolster pillows. Cover your comforter or blanket with a cover made specifically for daybeds. These types of covers consist of thicker material, evocative of upholstery, ideal for giving a daybed a finished look.
