Wire A Hanging Planter

Wire your plant pot to hang anywhere you like.

Hanging planters are a convenient way of getting plants up off the ground and into your line of vision. You can hang plants from a porch, low tree branches, hangers affixed to doorways, iron garden hooks and just about any place you can find to hook the planter. Once you know wire a planter, you can hang up pots of various styles, rather than being limited to the plastic hanging planters commonly sold in nurseries. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place a section of wire around the base of the plant pot. Set it below the fattest part of the pot so that the wire does not slip up over it. Twist the wire several times to secure it , and tuck the ends under.

2. Attach four sections of 6- to 8-inch wires to the wire around the pot, spacing them evenly apart. Thread each end around the wire and twist the bottom inch to secure. Loop the other end of each wire so that it forms an inverted u-shape 3 or 4 inches high; secure it to the wire around the pot without crossing over the other wires. Use a pair of needle-nosed pliers to twist and crimp the wire in place, tucking the ends under.

3. Measure the distance from the overhead hook on the porch roof or wall on which you plan to hang your planter, to eye level and add six inches. Cut four sections of wire to match this measurement.

4. Loop 1 inch from the end of the cut wires around the curve of the inverted u-shaped wires. Twist and secure the wire with the pliers. Repeat for each of the other wires.

5. Bring the four wires together at the top and twist the top 6 inches slightly. Form a 2-inch loop and wrap an 8-inch section of wire tightly around the ends of the wires. Crimp the wrapped wire with pliers to make it more secure.

6. Hang your planter on the overhead hook and check all the connections to make sure that your wire twists are secure.
