Styles For Double Beds

Platform beds are simplistic in design.

There are many different bed styles available. If you're shopping for a bed, finding out about these styles can give you a good idea of the sort of bed you would like. Double-bed styles include divan, canopy, sleigh and platform. Does this Spark an idea?

Divan Beds

The term divan beds applies to two types of beds. The first, viewed as the traditional style, is referred to as a sofa bed. It serves as a sofa in the daytime, but can be used as a bed at night. The other meaning relates to a bed with storage. Original divan beds once had storage space, in the form of drawers built in to the bed's frame. These drawers are suitable for towels and bed sheets.

Sleigh Beds

Sleigh beds' headboard and footboard make them look like old-fashioned horse-drawn sleighs. The headboard of sleigh beds is mostly larger than the footboard. Both curve outward toward the top. The term sleigh bed is used on a stylistic basis, but the beds can be made of different woods, such as mahogany, as well as metal or upholstered leather.

Canopy Beds

Canopy beds are large, four-poster beds, designed to support a curtain-like canopy that hangs down from the top of the frame. These beds, made of wrought iron to wood, come in traditional or contemporary styles. Traditional canopy beds are ornate, reflecting a Victorian sense of design, and contemporary ones, which present sleek, minimalistic design.

Platform Beds

Platform beds are defined by a platform that supports the mattress with no underlying box springs. The platform is made of wooden slats or panels that support the mattress. The simplistic design of these beds means you can find platform beds with different stylistic features. They even come in very low and compact models. Some platform beds accommodate under-bed storage.
