Mexican Handcrafts And Furniture

Paint a Mexican motif on old terra-cotta pots.

Mexican handcrafts and furniture feature rustic styles, natural tones, and solid durability. Addressing both practicality and esthetics, traditional Mexican decor adds a warm and inviting feel to any interior. Does this Spark an idea?

Wrought Iron

Wrought iron accents and furniture are typical of traditional Mexican decor. Ornately carved iron wall sconces and candelabras add warm, cozy lighting to the room. Heavy iron tables and chairs can be softened with richly toned southwestern style fabrics.

Textiles

Mexican blankets, tapestries, and draperies can be hung as wall art throughout the home. The colors are often reminiscent of the desert's landscape, flora, and fauna, or a beautiful Mexican sunset. Earth-toned upholstery fabrics can highlight the room's furniture.

Ceramics

Perhaps the most recognized of all Mexican handcrafts are the rustic, earth-toned pottery pieces. Tamalero pots, large ceramic pots once used to steam tamales, make perfect accent pieces to set off traditional Mexican decor. Colorful, hand-painted, Mexican ceramic tiles can brighten up a wall or backsplash.
