Hammer Caster Specs

Hammer manufacturers numerous wheel types.

Doing business from 1919 to the present, Hammer Casters provides its named products for medical, information and material handling equipment and furniture. "Development of innovative techniques, leading to ever higher quality goods" forms the corporate policy. Its casters, produced in a lubricated state, meet specifications designed to ensure safety and durability over time.

Wheel

The wheels for the Series 220 casters are made in three different diameters: 50, 65 and 75 millimeters (mm), or 1.96, 2.56 and 2.95 inches. Each diameter wheel has several wheel types, such as rubber, cast iron, hard rubber and polyurethane, all of which are plain bearing.

Loading Capacity

Defined as a weight the caster could carry easily and safely over a long period of time, load capacity specifications are listed for each diameter and type of wheel in the 220 series. Hammer suggests that the load capacity not be exceeded. The load capacity for each 50 mm wheel follows: rubber, 30 kilograms (kg); cast iron (two different wheels), 38 and 40 kg; hard rubber, 30 kg and polyurethane, 38 kg. For the 65 mm wheels rubber rates 40 kg, cast iron 60 and 55 kg, hard rubber 40 kg and polyurethane 55 kg. The larger 75 mm wheel's load capacity for rubber is 50 kg, for the two cast iron wheels 70 kg and 65 kg, the hard rubber 50 kg and the polyurethane 65 kg.

Yielding Load

The maximum load one caster can sustain is known as the yielding load with Hammer recommending the caster not to be subjected to that load, at least in the long term. For each of the three diameter wheels and the five types of wheels, the load in kg varies, ranging from a low of 120 kg for the 50 mm wheel in rubber and hard rubber to 280 kg for a 75 mm cast iron wheel.
