Drapery Room Divider Ideas

Draperies of all styles and types of fabric act as useful and inexpensive drapery room dividers. Of course, some fabrics are more expensive than others and the cost of this DIY project also varies depending on the overall style of your home. Regardless, using a drapery as a room divider is considerably less expensive than adding a new wall and has the beauty of being temporary and easily removed for more gracious entertaining. Does this Spark an idea?

Thick Upholstery Fabrics

Thick upholstery fabrics in tweed and tartan work well in a formal, elegant space such as an executive home or a high end property. Of course, a smaller home with polished and traditional flare can also accommodate this style of drapery room divider. A thicker fabric provides a greater cushion against noise and light, if you need the room divider for such purposes. Use lighter color fabrics in spaces that do not have an abundance of natural light and darker fabrics in rooms with more natural light and some well-positioned lighting.

Lush Velvet

Lush velvet, accompanied by silk sheers just for decor purposes, is ideal in a home filled with Parisian elegance or European style. Shades of purple paired with silver or gold provide the ideal balance of dark and light in a romantic style. Adding the silk sheers or even some satin sheers provides additional texture; texture creates sophistication in interior design.

Asian Silks and Imported Exotic Fabrics

Asian silks and other exotic imports provide a sense of contemporary class while also acting as a sleek balance in a modern space. The downside of these materials is that, while they act as a physical barrier, they do not offer much in the way of sound reduction. Alternatively, you can cover a thick room divider in Asian silk or other imported fabric such as embroidered Indian satin or a quilt from the markets of Turkey, for a decorative drapery-covered room divider.

Thick Cotton

A thick cotton is an ideal drapery-based room divider in a casual space, such as a family room. Cover up your entertainment system or a home office in a family room with pristine white cotton (darker colors if you have kids!) or striped nautical fabric. Use a wrought iron rod for additional style and personalization.
