Make A King Size Headboard

Old wooden door

Making a king-size headboard for a rustic, eclectic or country home interior can be easily done with the help of three old wooden doors. Not only will your headboard become the focal point of your bedroom, but it is also eco-friendly because you are recycling the doors. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Find three doors that will fit a king-sized mattress, which is on average 76 by 80 inches. The headboard must be slightly larger to allow for a bit of overhang on each side.

2. Sand the doors with heavy sandpaper to remove any accumulated debris or peeling paint. Continue smoothing the doors with increasingly lighter sandpaper.

3. Paint, stain or polyurethane the doors.

4. Lay the doors face down and side by side. Attach metal braces to the doors to create one large wooden surface. Place one brace 10 inches from the top and the other brace 10 inches from the bottom.

5. Find wall studs, and attach the bottom pieces of the flush mount sets to your wall. Attach the top pieces to the back of the headboard so all of the pieces fit together.

6. Hang the headboard, and center your mattress in front of it.
