Buy Pet Gates Cheap

Pet gates are similar to those used to protect the safety of young children.

Pet gates help establish order within the household and limit your pet's access to living space. They keep the pet out of places that wouldn't be safe or away from the kids at nap time. These simple structures -- which can pressure- or hardware-mounted, or freestanding -- can be expensive if you don't know what you are looking for. Know the width of the opening you're looking to block to begin your search for a low-cost gate.

Instructions

1. Look for pet gates at your local thrift store or dollar store. While the inventory is far more random than that of nationally known pet stores, you'll pay only a fraction of the cost.

2. Watch the pet stores to see what pet safety gates are available for discount. Stores have new styles continuously coming and going.

3. Know what you are looking for. Pet gates can be more expensive if you want wood, but metal and plastic ones are much cheaper and will be just as effective.

4. Consider an alternative to actual pet gates. While you need to create a blockage in the area the animal will not be permitted in, it doesn't have to be a fancy pet gate. You could also use a large piece of thick cardboard (such as from a refrigerator box), a piece of plastic or even a used baby gate.

5. Comparison-shop for pet gates on the Internet using websites such as Nextag or Bizrate.
