Remodel A Cafe Kitchen

Recreate your favorite cafe in your home.

If you find yourself frequenting a favorite cafe or coffee shop, remodel your kitchen to create this warm, inviting look in your home. A cafe-style does not require as much work as a complete remodel. Adding the right accessories, such as a cozy table, lighting, coffee mugs and a cake stand -- preferably filled with baked goodies -- are key. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the walls. Select a color that reminds you of a hot cuppa joe or a sweet pastry. Consider caramel, mocha or cinnamon.

2. Replace the current light fixture with a hanging light fixture similar to ones in the neighborhood coffee shop. Turn off the power to the kitchen at the home's main power box. Remove the screws holding the current light fixture in place, and disconnec the colored wires from the light fixtures wires. Connect the color-coded wires on the new fixture to the wires inside the ceiling, and secure with a wire nut. Gently place the wires and nuts inside the ceiling, and secure the hanging fixture to the ceiling with the screws provided and your drill. Turn the power back on.

3. Replace your dinette set with a bistro-style table and chairs. Make sure the new chairs are padded, so that you will be comfortable if you decide to set up your laptop on the table and spend the morning browsing.

4. Decorate the space with fresh flowers in a cappuccino-colored vase.

5. Hang a chalkboard on a wall to display the day's menu, or simply use it to post your to-do list. The chalkboard will underscore the cafe theme.

6. Add to the ambiance with a coffee maker, espresso machine and glass-covered cake dish.

7. Put in cup hooks under the cabinets. Hang a variety of coffee mugs on the hooks. Hanging and displaying the mugs will also give you easy access and more cabinet space.

8. Hang checked curtains on the windows. Checked curtains work well in a cafe-themed, as they encourage relaxing with a second cup of coffee.
