Remove Wheels Off Bed Frames

Adjustable bed frames are a good way to support your box springs and mattress without a headboard or foot board. Anytime you purchase a new mattress set, these universal metal frames usually are a part of the package. When you want to add risers to the bed frame to lift the bed away from the floor, you will need to remove the wheels. It is not difficult, but the proper technique will help. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Take the mattress and box springs off of the bed frame. This will make accessing the wheels less difficult and cumbersome.

2. Lift one corner of the bed frame up with one hand. The wheels most often fit into a plastic sleeve that inserts into a stem hole in the metal frame. They do not secure with fasteners. Attempt to pull a wheel straight out of the frame with your free hand. You may have to wiggle the wheel stem back and forth to accomplish removal.

3. If the wheel does not release by hand, the task may require a little tap with a hammer to release the wheel from the sleeve. Tap on the top of the wheel caster with a hammer or mallet while holding the frame and wheel off the floor. Tapping will free the wheel stem from the plastic collar.

4. Repeat the process for the remaining three corners of the bed frame. Some of the wheels will come off by hand while others will need a gentle persuasion from the mallet.
