History

John Deere was a blacksmith who built his first steel plow in 1837. He built a business selling farming equipment. John's son, Charles, took over the company in 1859 at the age of twenty-one. The first trademark from Deere and Company showing the leaping deer was registered in 1876. The company bought the Warterloo Gasoline Traction Engine Company and its tractor designs in 1918 and began producing tractors. The John Deere Model "D" tractor was launched in 1923.

Agricultural Tractors

John Deere's line of agricultural tractors ranges from 18 to 530 horsepower with customizing options available. Compact utility tractors have attachment options for landscaping, loading, digging, mowing, snow removal and tilling. Larger farming tractors have optional upgrades such as air conditioning, radio, refrigerator and interior lights in addition to outside attachments. Deere and Company also produces four-wheel drive and track tractors to suit all types of terrain.

Construction Tractors

John Deere offers a number of construction tractors. Loaders are available in options such as backhoe, compact track, crawler, four-wheel drive and landscape. Dozers come in crawler and high speed. The company also offers excavators, motor graders, scraper tractors, skid steers and waste management tractors. Attachments are sold to customize the tractors for various jobs. Augers, breakers, forks, hydraulic hammers and rollers can be added to a construction tractor for versatility. Construction grade equipment is yellow instead of the trademark green.

Forestry

John Deere has tractors available for forestry applications. They offer feller bunchers in both tracked and wheeled. The grapple skidder is single dual function and, according to John Deere, the cable skidder has powerful winches for though loads. A knucleboom loader gets logs onto the trucks. Swing tractors have a variety of uses from shovel logging to loading. Harvesters, forwarders and attachments are all offered for the forestry industry.

Residential Tractors

John Deere's lawn tractors are offered for home owners who wish to do their own landscaping. There are over one hundred attachments available for residential lawn tractors. Deere and Company has bucket holders, utility carts, shovels, blades, disks, plows and tillers for multiple jobs. For rider comfort there are canopies, fans and foot rest extensions. The utility tractors are also available to residential customers. These come with the same options as those for the agricultural sector.
