Modernize A Bathroom With Pink & Gray Tile

"Mamie pink" was a staple of 1950s decorating.

Pink bathrooms were the height of style during the mid-1950s through the early 1960s, due in large part to the influence of Mamie Eisenhower, the very popular first lady from 1953 through 1961. Mamie loved pink so much she decorated the White House private quarters in pink, causing reporters to name it the "Pink Palace." Pink bathrooms and kitchens still mark many houses from the era, and can look dated, or may simply not be your favorite color to see first thing in the morning. If replacing the pink and gray tile and fixtures isn't an option, you can add touches of other color to give a more modern look to your bathroom. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint your bathroom walls a clean, crisp white. Black trim will contrast nicely, and give a more modern look against the gray and pink tile.

2. Replace or paint any bathroom cabinets white. Provide extra storage with a white space saver organizer placed over the toilet area.

3. Provide privacy with black and white toile, check or striped curtains.

4. Update towel racks and toilet paper holders with contemporary fixtures in chrome or black wrought iron.

5. Hang a shower curtain with a small, black and white pattern.

6. Purchase new towels and a floor mat in white, with black trim or pattern.

7. Collect dirty laundry in a black wicker hamper.

8. Hang one or two small black-and-white photos, or paintings mainly in those colors. Black or silver frames will complement the art.

9. Display pink flowers in a black, white or silver small vase for a feminine touch.
