Choose Headboards For Small Rooms

Wrought iron headboard

Large head boards can overpower a small bedroom, making it feel crowded and closed in. A large, ornate headboard wouldn't be suitable for a small room. The headboard as well as the scale of the other furniture in the room must give a feeling of spaciousness to the entire room. There are several different types of headboards that can be used in a small bedroom. Does this Spark an idea?

Choose Headboards for Small Rooms

1. A good headboard choice for a small girl is white wrought iron. It has larger openings in the grillwork that allow the colors of the walls to show through it. A wrought iron headboard blends with the room, giving it an open, airy feeling.

2. For a small boy, a good choice is a bookcase headboard with shallow shelves for displaying small toys, such as matchbox cars. Paint the bookcase to blend in with the paint on the walls. Another option for a small boy is a framed poster of his favorite cartoon character attached to the wall above the bed.

3. For a teenager's room, a good headboard choice is a baseball diamond, painted on a section of hardboard and attached to the wall. This can be framed if you wish. The key is to keep the scale of the diamond small and as close to the wall as possible. A tall, narrow headboard takes the focus upward and gives the illusion of height and space.

4. Adult headboards for a small bedroom can be upholstered in the same fabric as the bedcovering to give a visual continuation of the fabric up the wall. A framed painting that is narrower than the bed will make the room seem larger. A headboard designed to look like a window is another option to make a room appear larger.
