Baker's racks can be constructed from wood, wrought iron, glass or metal. Select a style that matches the other furniture in your room and makes the most of the space that you have available for this piece.

2. Select a room to display your baker's rack in. Baker's racks are often considered kitchen or dining room accessories, but you can easily incorporate this piece into a living room, study or even a bedroom. Select an area that will benefit from the added storage space as well as a surface to display decorative objects.

3. Add some storage elements to your baker's rack. The shelves will look too busy if you cover every inch of them with knickknacks and other paraphernalia. If your rack doesn't already have a cabinet or drawers on the bottom, select a few decorative boxes to break up the shelf and surface space of the baker's rack and use these as handy storage spaces.

4. Display collections or other groupings of decorative items on your baker's rack. The upper shelves are an ideal place to display a favorite collection, such as antique teapots in the kitchen or dining room, or dolls and teddy bears in a bedroom.

5. Space out your items and use a variety of different shapes and sizes. Include a few large potted plants or boxes along with collections or smaller items such as figurines or candles to give the rack good overall balance. Be sure to leave some spaces empty to keep it from looking overcrowded.
