Garage Door Rubber Gasket/door sweep
I have a 16 yr. old garage door. The grey door sweep that is underneath the door has disintegrated! It is rubber helped to keep water/bugs out. I can not figure out get it out so I can bring it down to Home Depot to buy another 1. I tried prying it out w/ a screw driver but it is really in there good! How can I get this out so I can get a new 1 in? Tina The bottom door rubber that you are talking about differs from manufacture to manufacture. Some use a aluminum channel that a rubber gasket slides into, others differ in different ways. You will need to find the maker of your garage door and locate a local distributer. They should be able to help you further. You should look for a label or a sticker on the inside of the door for the manufactures name. I will look today. So no easy way to get this out huh? I looked on the door it's a Roll Lite model #110. When I searched the web contacted this co. I was told they went out of bus. in 1999. He referred me to a person in the area to phone...boy is this turning into a maze just to get an old, broken gasket out huh? I am now waiting to see what this person will say. I know it can be frustrating. There are similar bottom weather seals out there to what you have now that can be adapted to your door. I found this site that has a few selections. http://www.garage-doors-and-parts.co...ther-seal.html Look there for what you need and then price it with local door companies. It is good to know the thickness of your door,(1, 1 3/8, 2), and how the bottom of the door is finished, (tongue and groove or ship-lap). Local door companies should have something that will work for you. If possible cut a piece off and bring it with you I had a pro come out to help w/ the garage door today. He's got 39 yrs. in the biz seems to really know a lot. He gave me a quote of $90.00 to replace the bottom gasket. He told me they don't make them anymore he has to order a new bottom that this rubber gasket goes into....while he was here I asked if my Roll Lite 110 needed to be replaced. It is a 16 yr. old door. He looked at it said the rollers on ea. side could be replaced the 2 large coiled springs above the door. He gave me a price of $250.00 for this the bottom gasket also. For a new steel door he said it would be $700.00. I now am in limbo because I feel the door has held up for 16 yrs. several hurricanes, 1 tornado well do I really need all this? Can anyone tell me the life on this Roll Lite #110 door, springs/rollers in Central Fla.? I could not cut off the bottom sweep/gasket to bring into the store. It's totally broken down can not get it out of the bottom...I tried trust me. Originally Posted by trose I had a pro come out to help w/ the garage door today. In your case everything like springs, track ,hinges, cables, bearings, and rollers can always be replaced. The only exception in you case would be the actual sections, If they rust out or get damaged then you are committed to buying a new door. A door company installing a new bottom retainer and rubber weather seal (what you call door sweep) shouldn't be that hard to find a replacement. Keep in mind the rubber seal and retainer usually have to be made for each other. for example brand X rubber weather seal won't slide into brand Y's retainer. If you take a utility knife and slice the rubber in half down the center, long ways (the length of the door) it will be easier to pull the rubber seal out the end of the door. Most rubber seals are shaped like a T on each side, which folds into a U shape and slides down two channel built into the retainer. you may get lucky and find a close match, New rubber should be around a dollar a foot and the retainer can run anywhere from $1.50 to $3.50 a foot So I guess I will keep the door possibly try again to replace the bottom gasket. He wants $100.00 to replace the rubber gasket said w/ this door it's a different bottom 'bracket'? he'd have to install that. Thank you
