GE Pro Elite Water Softener System
I cannot find out any info about this system on the net. All I can find on GE's site is ****** but it doesn't have the one that I am considering purchasing from ******. The one I am looking it at came out in July. It has a silver tank. It is called the GE Pro Elite system. Anyone know anything about this??? IIRC, thats an autrotrol performa logix valve with sensor. http://www.gewater.com/pdf/resdntl/m...ers_Manual.pdf This line of branding is something GE has promoted through their dealer network to pull-through end users to purchase from specific dealers. What questions did you have about the product ? Just wanted to know if anyone who has one likes it. We are having one installed in the morning. Also was wondering if $6000 is a good price? Wanted to see if what others thought of it. I don't want to tread on anyone's toes, but I have a hard time seeing that thing sold for any more than $2K, including installation. What do you get for your $6K in addition to the softener ? We got the reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink and a year supply of an entire soap line (8 different cleaners). It also included the install fee and tax. I have purchased a whole house RO unit from *****. $8,600 OUCH. (Not GE Pro-Elite). It does not require any salts, potassium or added chemicals but softens and makes RO water. Also received the so called $6K 5 year supply worth of soaps-cleaners that I KNOW is not worth 6,000$! Am having buyers remorse for the conflicting information from this company, etc. It was installed so fast, I should have said - hold on I have more questions but I did not. Have I been totally run over? NO other company I have found can figure out why this machine costs 8600K. Has 1 carbon filter, 1 sediment, 2 RO membranes, 1 Ozone box that purifies the RO water in a huge blue tank and a motor that pumps the RO water to home. Better water pressure and much improved water conditions but am really feeling like I got taken to the cleaners, literally. Advise please and you won't step on any toes... Thanks so much, skc SKC2008, With respect... with the Internet at almost everyone's fingertips you should have asked questions BEFORE committing to buy anything you don't fully understand and for sure before you write a four decimal place check. If what you say is accurate and they sold you a whole house RO that is not a particularly good idea. RO water is aggressive and will leach copper from copper pipes and other metals from fixtures and attack the inside of your water heater at any small flaw in the glass lining. RO water is generally distributed in PE (polyethylene) tubing and usually only from a POU (point of use) to a separate faucet and/or an icemaker in a fridge. It would be interesting to see the results of a test of your water to see if there was any reason to treat your water in the first place. It's not so much that you were taken to the cleaners.. it seems that they brought the cleaners to you. Originally Posted by skc2008 I have purchased a whole house RO unit from ******. $8,600 OUCH. Thanks so much, skc Actually for what was installed, your price range is not all that bad. My questions would be: What capacity retention tank do you have? Why did you feel you needed a whole house RO? What type of plumbing do you have...Copper? Your system is very extensive. The ozone generator alone can be quite expensive. Of course, you will have softened water of very high quality. I wonder what the source water tests revealed. What is the pH of the water coming in and going out? Eventhough you might have gone overboard with technology and water treatment, don't feel to bad unless some other aspects may be involved that would make it have a short lifespan or cause additional problems. Can you take pictures of it? It would be great to see. Andy Christensen, CWS-II I agree with AndyC. You didn't pay too much for what you received. I would be concerned about the tendency for r/o water to be acidic and aggressive. It will attack copper and eat through it in many cases. I would definitely check the post filtration pH and if below 7.0 I would consider a calcite neutralizer as much as it may seem to defeat the purpose of the whole house r/o. Of course, if your home is plumbed in pvc or PEX, the issue won't be so bad except for the water heater and fixtures. It would be interesting to know the circumstances of the installation and the water conditions that required the whole house RO solution rather than a more conventional and much less costly treatment system. We agree that the home owner should monitor the PH as RO water is aggressive and can manifest numerous problems that can cost big bucks to remedy. Thank you for each reply. I will find out the pH. We have a problem that is not getting resolved that the total trihalomethanes / total haloacetic acids are exceeding TCEQ contaminant levels every quarter and not getting better. Both husband and I have health problems so are trying to protect ourselves. Also, very hard water here ruining plumbing, fixtures, appliances, clothing and our skin and hair. Water is not drinkable from tap - taste alone besides contaminants. After speaking with GE Industries I do feel much better in that they validate this system will remove those things listed above and they do know the designer and maker of the product (********) and GE does know *********seller). VERY RELIEVED knowing that. How can I post a picture? Thank you, skc Originally Posted by cleanwaterman I agree with AndyC. You didn't pay too much for what you received. Of course, if your home is plumbed in pvc or PEX, the issue won't be so bad except for the water heater and fixtures. Pure water is very aggressive, hence the fact that some bottled waters can go bad, but it has much less to do with PH levels as it does the T.D.S. levels of the water. Pure water is a natural solvent and can ruin copper lines within a years time, pure water. Water with less than 10ppm of T.D.S. is that type of water. The G.E. Whole House R.O. unit will remove up to 95% of T.D.S. in the water and in a normal situation will never dip below 20ppm of T.D.S. for that reason. If it does, a simple adjustment on the flow rate can fix it. Originally Posted by AndyC Actually for what was installed, your price range is not all that bad. The soaps, in my opinion are great. If you actually go to the website of the company and buy the exact same soap kit you will pay roughly $3800 from my calculations, but it is a savings of $6000 total because of the fact you use much less of each cleaner to get the same clean, and you are helping the environment because all the products bio-degrade in nature in less than 28 days. As for the system itself, the best thing to remember about your purchase is the lifetime warranty. All you have to do is change the filters, roughly every 2 years, to maintain that. The system should never allow the water to become aggressive towards your plumbing. Feel secure in knowing you purchased a quality product from a quality company. It's not so much that you were taken to the cleaners.. it seems that they brought the cleaners to you. I really don't know where you are getting your information from other than the fact that it is common misconceptions. You are correct that most R.O. water is distributed from poly lines but you are wrong about the aggressiveness of water. I mentioned in an article above that pure water is very aggressive. The average tap water in the U.S. has between 200-400ppm of T.D.S. running through it. Ideal drinking water has 0-50ppm. Water becomes very aggressive when the T.D.S. levels dip below 10ppm. The system itself is regulated to never go below 20ppm for that reason. There is always a reason to treat your water when there is anything in the water. The E.P.A. allows small amounts of known toxins to be present in your water, but even small amounts of poisons are still poisons. Smoking once probably won't kill you, but smoking a lot over a long period of time obviously has health effects. Whether you drink the water or not isn't the concern, for the most part. It is the fact that your body will absorb on average of 64% of it's chemicals through your largest organ, your skin. So it's the bathing part that is the most harmful. Your body will absorb the same amount of chlorine as drinking 8 glasses of water a day by taking a 15 minute shower. So you are correct, they did bring the cleaners, the cleaner, healthier, safer water. What do you get for your $6K in addition to the softener ? How about the most filtration available on the market, the only system that is green in the history of water purification, and a lifetime warranty, for starters. The truest way to economy is to buy once, buy right, and never worry again, am I correct. Sure there are cheaper systems on the market. I can buy one at Sears for $800 installed, but I will be replacing that unit every 2-3 years if I really want to keep my water clean. The average water system costs roughly $2,500, has 6 Stages of filtration, and comes with a 5 year warranty. The G.E. Pro Elite has 10 Stages of filtration and a life-time warranty on the major parts of the system, as well as the newest technology available. Some people like to drive Bentleys, some people like to drive Hondas. Originally Posted by megaggie2002 I cannot find out any info about this system on the net. Pro Elite system that came out in July of 2007 and the one you are looking at from *****Aq should be the same thing. ***** is a Pro Elite dealer through GE. That's who I purchased my system from. The stainless tank can be seen on ***** as well as ******. I don't know where you are from, but ****** The GE Pro Elite System is the cadillac of ro systems. One of the great facts about this system is that you never have to change any filters, it is computerized and cleans itself as programmed depending on your water usage.... The entire system is warrantied for you lifetime and your children can even be listed as the secondary on the warranty so that the warranty is continue for the life of that child. If you bought a system you should already know the state of your water. Again congratulations on your wise investment. I felt a bit better after reading what everyone wrote...I was all set with a couple of things from Lowes...I was going to install everything then I looked into the Pro Elite system...the system will cost me $2495 including the reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink...which I was told the osmosis is 50% off...some kind of show going on this weekend...all part of the sales pitch...So adding on the $150 (the other part of the 50%) and $500 -which would of been the salesman commission- it probably would of cost me over $3000...but sales suck right now...and I made it clear I've been a contractor for 21 years...its all about what's my trouble worth...after materials do I really what to put it all together and save some extra cash (yes) but to have this nut give me a lifetime warranty...I'll pay the $2495...My towns water comes from 5 different wells...Discovery Bay, CA...and with all of the crap...Old DDT and farming toxins into the soil and down to the water table...I needed a way of holding off growing a third arm or some third world virus that would make my hair fall out and skin peal off...of which I hear there is a skin peal that women pay for...Maybe I will put up a sign...I'm sure I'm paying 1.5k in labor for 2 hours of work...sad thing is if no one was home I'm sure he could be out in an hour...so folks I'm sure you could get everything and put it in yourself for cheaper...Oh...I have him/them running a line from under my sink (reverse osmosis system) around the kitchen under/through all of the cabinets to the Fridge Ice/water line...The fridge is across the kitchen...just didn't make since not to bust his balls a little...I'm sure I will hurt more later on... Sorry for the long post...Thanks again for everyone input... I am very interested in the Pro-Elite system, however I could really care less about the 6 Year Supply of exotic soaps that ***** is pushing. The price I was quoted was $8995.00 plus $1000.00 installation. I cannot justify this steep price for this system. All I want is a water system for my house, not the entire city. Have you looked into a Fleck 5600. I've been dealing with them for 19+ years and know there are a good unit. You could buy one for about $650.00 I have the ****system with the under sink RO. Does anyone know a source other than ***** for replacement filters. They charge $200 to just replace the RO filters, not including the membrane. I have had the unite for two years it has never worked properly. the company left Amarillo. I can find no one to support the system. Can anyone help me? Originally Posted by peppertrader I have the **** system with the under sink RO. Does anyone know a source other than ****for replacement filters. Originally Posted by davidrose I have had the unite for two years it has never worked properly. the company left Amarillo. I can find no one to support the system. Can anyone help me? I believe they have an office in Lubbock. Let's just assume a few things for yoru home in Discovery Bay: 1. Municipal water 1 builder preplumb copper loop in the garage - some are 3/4 CPVC and some are 1 1/4 copper 2. 18 - 24 gpg hardness, 0.5 ppm total chlorine; ND iron, 7.5 - 7.7 pH, 350 - 550 ppm TDS. 3. Most national dealers will quote you a range of $2800 - $3800 for a 20 BB prefilter w/ GAC cartridge, 1.5 cubic foot softener, and a 5 stage reverse osmosis system and permeate pump. Warranty will be lifetime for mineral tank, resin, valve body, and brine tank; 5 yrs electronics/internal valve, and 1 yr all inclusive. 5 - 10 yrs on RO system, excluding filters. 4. Private label dealers a little less. Get a few quotes good luck. $6000.00 seems awfully expensive. You must be omitting part of the job since in my area (greater NYC) that system should only cost half as much or even less.
