Walbro Carburetor Question
I have an MTD Yardmachines Lawn Tractor with a Briggs 287707 engine on it, and the carb won't let gas into the engine. It first let too much into the engine, hydrolocking it, with much blue smoke from gas in the oil. After cleaning the carb with carb cleaner, clearing the hydrolock and changing the oil, the opposite happened. The carb is a Walbro with 5-4993 on the side, and I believe it's an LMT? I have it soaking with all seals I could find off, and one jet out, which I believe is the idle jet, but don't have a good enough exploded diagram to know which parts should come off and which should be left in place. I don't want to have to rebuild it, but there was definitely a large amount of shellac in the bowl. I also want to check the solenoid on the bottom of the float bowl. Any help would be appreciated. I figured out it was definately an LMT, and got it completely apart to clean it up. I figured out test the solenoid, and it works. I now need ANYONES help to get the right cables to the right holes when putting the carb back on, since I forgot to take a picture before I took it off. Any Help????? Cheese? Anyone?? Please??? Snake The linkage with the long loop in it goes to the choke, the black plastic shaft, and it fits in a hole on the short side, not the hole on the long part that extends off the shaft. Look at the holes, you'll see which one has some wear and that's the one it was in. It hooks in from the underside, then the loop fits through a slot in the control housing. The long straight link hooks to the throttle shaft and goes to the governor arm, through the center of the thin long spring, and it hooks on at each end where the linkage connects. I have a 12.5 hp Briggs with a Walbro 5-4993 carb. Idles fine but backfires sputters at full throttle. Carb has been rebuilt. If I close the fuel valve , the engine will run a few seconds still rough but shortly will run perfectly smooth until carb runs out of fuel. Float level too high ? Anyone have specs on setting float level? Any help or ideas?...Tks Carb has fixed high speed jet needle for low speed adjusment. Near the low speed jet there is a brass screw into carb. This brass screw tightens all the way down but the end of screw has holes in it like its a port of some kind. What in heck is this thing? It sounds like the carb is flooding. Did you redo the carb yourself? The little brass jet is part of the idle circuit if I recall correctly. Originally Posted by cheese It sounds like the carb is flooding. Hi Cheese..yes I rebuilt it.The inlet needle valve 0-ring seat has been replaced with brass.(superceded) I know it seals off well but I agree with you that the carb is flooding.Float is all plastic so I don't know how level can be adjusted. The float is not sinking. The engine will idle and fast idle all day long just fine.Carb has been cleaned in carb cleaner, air blown all that good stuff...Thanks fo the reply
