Restore Calphalon Pans After Dishwashing

Hand wash your Calphalon cookware.

Calphalon produces non-stick and hard-anodized pots and pans. Follow the manufacturer's care instructions carefully to keep the cookware working efficiently and looking new. Dishwasher detergents and abrasive cleaners can scratch and ruin the surfaces of your cookware, voiding the lifetime warranty. Does this Spark an idea?

Recommended Care

To clean Calphalon cookware, allow it to cool before you submerge it in warm soapy water. Clean it with a nylon scrubbing brush or dish cloth. Soak difficult stains and hardened food in soapy water. Rinse and then clean hard-anondized cookware with Bar Keeper's Friend, a commercial cleaning product available at most grocery stores, advises the Calphalon website. Don't use Bar Keeper's Friend on non-stick or enamel surfaces.

Considerations

If an oily residue remains on your Calphalon pans, the non-stick surface stops working efficiently. If you notice food sticking, your pans may just need a good cleaning. To restore pans, soak them in warm, sudsy water for 30 minutes, or fill them with soapy water and boil them gently on the stove. Unless the pans have been permanently damaged, the non-stick surface should function properly again.

Warnings

Plunging your Calphalon cookware in water while it's still hot may cause warping, but don't leave it sitting dirty overnight either. Wash your cookware as soon as it cools down slightly to prevent pitting or staining that can occur from delayed cleaning. Warping and pitting are permanent.

Solutions

If you've washed your Calphalon cookware by hand, you can easily restore it. If, on the other hand, you've damaged the cookware in the dishwasher, you can still use it, but the non-stick surfaces won't work as efficiently, requiring more butter or cooking spray. Use Calphalon Dormand cleanser to restore the outside of your hard-anodized pans to like-new appearance.
