Refinish Cast Iron Tubs

Cast iron tubs add luxury to your bathroom.

Cast iron tubs can be very expensive, but they are sturdy and can last for years. Refinishing them will prevent rusting, staining and wearing of the finish. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Clean the tub thoroughly to remove dust and dirt.

2. Sand small interior rust spots by hand. Use an electric sander for large rust spots.

3. Wipe the tub to remove any dust created from sanding.

4. Use an abrasive cleaner and steel wool to remove stains and rust from the legs and the outside of the tub.

5. Use a paintbrush to apply a rust-proof sealant to the legs and the outside of the tub. Let the sealant dry completely.

6. Apply a coat of paint to the legs and the outside of the tub, and let it dry completely. Don't worry if some imperfections show through the paint.

7. Apply a second coat of paint to the legs and the outside of the tub, then let it dry completely.

8. Add a third coat of paint if necessary.
