Care For Aluminum Patio Furniture

Although you've got plenty of choices when it comes to different types of patio furniture, most people agree that if you are looking for something durable, aluminum is the way to go. Fortunately, in addition to standing up to the elements and heavy usage, it turns out aluminum patio furniture is a snap to take care of. If you use some basic household items, you can easily clean and maintain your aluminum patio furniture. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove any cushions or coverings and spray down the aluminum frame with a hose or water-pressure washer. Simple water pressure is often enough to get rid of stuck-on dirt and minor surface stains.

2. Mix a 1 to 2 tbsp. of dish detergent with a gallon of water, and use a sponge to clean stuck-on gunk from the aluminum furniture. Don't be afraid to use a little elbow grease, as even finished aluminum is very resistant to scratches and scuffs.

3. Use a scouring pad to get rid of any remaining thick material. Once the material has been removed, switch back to using a regular sponge to prevent any possible scratching from the scouring pad.

4. Apply a small amount of cooking oil (a tablespoon or less) to the furniture just prior to the winter months using a clean rag to help keep it from freeze-related damage. Don't forget to wipe the oil off once the weather warms.

5. Use automotive wax twice a year to keep your aluminum furniture shiny. You only need to apply a thin coat twice a year using a clean rag to keep your furniture looking its best.
